Sirsa, August 30 - Even as speculations are rife as to who will succeed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, dera sources have denied any move to appoint the next chief.

Nevertheless, the names of dera head’s son Jasmeet Singh, his adopted daughter Honeypreet and dera chairperson Vipassana Insan are doing the rounds. Sources said in the past few years, Honeypreet’s clout had grown substantially that even the dera chief’s family had started feeling insecure.

Since the conviction, Honeypreet is learnt be staying with the dera chief’s mother Naseeb Kaur at the dera, while his son and two daughters have their own palatial bungalows on the dera premises. We have learnt that despite Honeypreet’s clout, Jasmeet Singh and his sisters Amarpreet Kaur and Charanpreet Kaur are unlikely to let her elevation a smooth affair.

Vipassana Insan, who took over as Chairperson of the Dera in 2011, is the second in command. She has recently been seen making appeals for peace to the followers and communicating with the authorities.

The sources said though the dera chief’s family would like Jasmeet to take over, the position had never been given to someone in the blood relation of the dera chief in the past. The question arose when the second guru, Shah Satnam Singh, was to name a successor in 1990 and despite his own son being a senior dera functionary, he named Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Jasmeet’s father-in-law Harminder Singh Jassi, a former Congress MLA from Bathinda, is camping in the dera giving credence to the speculations over the appointment of a successor.

The sources said if the issue of blood relationship came in the way of Jasmeet’s elevation, the family could name him a manager to look after the Rs 1,000-crore empire and let Gurmeet Ram Rahim continue as dera chief. “Even otherwise, the successor is to be named by the dera chief himself as no other person has the right to do so,” the sources added.
