Durgiana Temple to have Heritage Street, witness complete revamp: Sidhu

The Heritage Street will see a de-congested approach road, uniform look and walkways for pilgrims.

Rs. 5 crores already released for this project, Minister makes on ground inspection

-Sidhu also inspects beautification work of Durgiana Temple, promises 4 under-passes for the city

 Making on ground inspection of the ongoing beautification work of the Durgiana Temple, Punjab Local Bodies, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, S. Navjot Singh Sidhu said that a heritage street will be developed near the Durgiana Mandir to facilitate the pilgrims and also give this religious place a major facelift.


Stressing that Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has sent him here to oversee the ongoing beautification project and see into the planning of the Heritage street near the Temple, the Minister said already Rs. 5 crores have been released for the heritage street and the place will give a world class look once complete.


Detailing on this Heritage street project that will come on the pattern of one made around Golden Temple, The Punjab Local Bodies Minister said that this Heritage street will start from the Haathi Gate and will have uniformity of structures around. Also one side of the road will just be opened for pedestrians and traffic won’t be allowed. This will decongest the area approaching the Durgiana Mandir. The main entrance will have a new façade and also walkways for the devotees, added the Minister.


The Minister, who also reviewed the ongoing beautification project of the Durgiana Temple, said that we aim to complete this ongoing beautification project by June. Till now around Rs 25 crores have been earmarked and major portion released for the Durgiana Temple project and this shows the commitment of the government for this religious place that has great importance.


“Pilgrims from all over visit this Durgiana Temple in big number and it is our duty to ensure that they don’t face any problem. We will also ensure that nobody is uprooted during the heritage street project.,” he added.


The Minister said that the world famous ‘Langoor Mela’ is held at this temple and once the beautification project is complete, it will be a great facility for pilgrims.


Sidhu, who held a detailed meeting with the members of the Durgiana Committee promised that the Punjab Government was committed for the overall development of this temple and their was no dearth of money for this place.


The Punjab Minister even had a dig at the previous SAD-BJP regime for failing to complete the project and also not releasing adequate funds.


Meanwhile talking about the overall development of the city, the Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that soon underpasses will be constructed near Railway station, Gurudwara Shaheedan Sahib, Bus stand and Jora Fatak. He said that the money has already been allocated for this.


Stressing that the work regarding under-passes will start from next month, the Minister said that this will go a long way in giving people a smooth ride and also solve the traffic issues.
