Celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights

In Netherlands festivals and celebrations are at the heart of people’s lives. One of the most-celebrated festivals is Diwali, a five-day festival that represents the start of the Hindu New year It is celebrated on the 15th day of Kartika (Oct/Nov) in the Hindu Calendar It is also known as the Festival of Lights. Fireworks, small clay lamps and candles are lit during the celebration. These lights are said to represent the victory of good over evil and brightness over darkness. It’s a festival of joy, splendor, happiness and prosperity.Homes are illuminated with traditional earthen lamps, and people enjoy traditional  delicacies.

This year we did the Lord Shiv Abhishek’s on the very first day of Diwali at Mandir Shri Ganesh, Netherlands and so many programs organized for Diwali celebrations in Amstelveen,Rotterdam,Almere.

We organized Ramayan skit in my sons school.Childrens  from School, celebrated Diwali with devotion, enthusiasm and excitement. Tastefully decorated school campus added charm and religious fervour to the atmosphere as the little ones dressed up as different characters from the Ramayana enchanted all. Various scenes from the life of Lord Rama were presented .The kids were given a traditional welcome. They were also informed about the significance of the festival. Decorated in vibrant hues, the school had an ambience of joy and happiness.

Festivals of Diwali help in erasing economic, racial and cultural differences, thus helping in bringing in peace and harmony. We found “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” here also.
Here is to wishing  all a very Happy Diwali.
